Supporting Environmental Education Measures in Costa Rica
The extent to which environmental and nature conservation projects can be developed successfully in the future is, also in Costa Rica, especially dependent upon the dedicated participation of the younger generations. Thus, TROPICA VERDE is contributing to nature conservation and environmental education measures in Costa Rica.
TROPICA VERDE has supported workshops in Costa Rica and the adjacent Nicaraguan forest areas, in line with the project to protect the Great Green Macaw, and with the help of funds from the Manfred-Hermsen-Stiftung and the city of Frankfurt am Main. In addition, TROPICA VERDE finances the newsletter “Hoja de Almendro”, which appears six times a year and informs the population about nature conservation in general and on the progress of the project in particular.
Furthermore TROPICA VERDE was able to support a public awareness campaign at schools in Costa Rica and Nicaragua in the project region which was supported by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) with funds from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). As a result, a network of schoolchildren was established and is now working actively and regularly for the conservation of the Great Green Macaw.
In the Monte Alto Forest Reserve, TROPICA VERDE supported several environmental activities: With the help of the German Embassy in Costa Rica and funds of the Hand in Hand Fund of Rapunzel AG and Deutsche Umwelthilfe, TROPICA VERDE enabled the Fundacion Pro Reserva Natural Monte Alto to build an information pavilion which informs visitors about the biological diversity and conservation activities within the project and the region.
